There is a really simple way to help the planet and it’s called Community Solar. Any individual or business who doesn’t have solar panels can enroll, it costs nothing, it saves you 10% off your electric bill. It brings clean renewable solar energy into the grid without it being on your roof. Subscribers keep their current energy supplier (including third party supplier if you have one) and it doesn’t change the relationship with your electric company. Basically you enroll in a Community Solar Farm, you receive Solar Credits. You pay for 90% of those but the full 100% is credited to your electric bill so you save 10% every month. The power created by the farm goes into the power grid and is purchased by the nearest utility to the farm. This increases the renewable energy in the grid.

I have saved over $100 in less than a year as a subscriber to a Community Solar farm. This program is paid for by everyone who has an electric bill as a tax on your bill called SBC. The money goes to NYSERDA. It is a state run program.

Joining a Community Solar Farm helps us meet the CLCPA goals set by the state to have 6000MW of solar in the grid by 2025, 70% of the state power to come from renewable sources by 2030, and 100% carbon-free by 2040.
